Quartet No. 1 (2017) for 4 performers

The individual gestures of the performers form the raw material of this composition. The four Maulwerker were filmed being interviewed. In a second stage, the performers imitated the everyday and often unconscious gestures that accompany speaking, thereby re-appropriating them. Regardless of their potential narrative content, the gestures in the piece are treated like sounds: surrounded by silence, soloistic, canonical, choral. In the course of the piece, two further acoustic levels are added to the musical gesture level, leading to a polyphonic meshwork of sounds, tones and gestures.
